Okinawa / A campaign story

Change the question.
Change the ride.

A new brand. A different technology. A very familiar way to get around. Okinawa’s campaign made the electric scooter feel like something you could already picture riding home.

Okinawa’s first campaign had to introduce both a brand and a different way of getting around. The audience was the everyday Indian scooter buyer, someone who might otherwise have chosen a conventional petrol model. Before an electric scooter could become a serious option, it needed to feel understandable and familiar.

Our visits to Okinawa showrooms gave us a useful starting point. Looking at the product, we found little that felt unfamiliar compared with the scooters people already knew. The question became how to communicate that familiarity without making the audience work through a comparison between two technologies.

We chose a simple proposition: the scooter you recognise, without the petrol bill. That allowed us to speak about a practical difference in the buyer’s everyday life rather than ask them to become interested in a new category first. It also gave Okinawa an approachable way to introduce itself, with the product and the brand speaking in the same voice.

Developed in-house, the campaign began in Hindi and was adapted into Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil for a pan-India launch. The clarity of the central thought mattered across those versions: the invitation was to consider a familiar purchase with one important change.

The work helped establish an early position for Okinawa while the electric-scooter category was still finding its language. Instead of making the technology the centre of the conversation, we gave the prospective rider a straightforward reason to consider it.

A new category gets easier to understand when it speaks an everyday language.

A different brief.
The same curiosity.
